Harpenden Highland Gathering - Sunday 10th July 2011

Once again the Harpenden Highland Gathering lived up to its reputation as a fun day out for the whole family, and once again the weather was kind.

Around 8000 visitors flocked to Rothamsted Park to enjoy the spectacle of the massed pipe bands, the excitement of the highland games and other arena events, and the the talents of local gymnasts and dance enthusiasts who put on superb shows.

Approximately £20,000 was raised for local charities, including the Prostate Cancer Charity, Grove House Hospice and the Lions Life Skills Programme for local schools.

Admission Programmes:

£3.00 in advance by credit card online- or from the outlets listed below.

Online booking will be available nearer the date and will attract a surcharge of £1.50 per order to cover postage of the programme and money transmission charges. Only one programme per order will be sent by post with the balance of the order (if appropriate) satisfied by vouchers exchangeable for admission programmes at the gate.

£6.00 at the gate.

Children under 16 are FREE when accompanied by an adult.

Rothamsted Park is in the centre of Harpenden and can be reached easily by road from Luton or St Albans or from M1 exits 9 or 10. It is within walking distance of Harpenden station on the Brighton to Bedford line.

Charity Golf Day - Friday 6th May 2011 -

Charity Golf Day 2011

Harpenden Lions Club held another Charity Golf Day on Friday 6th May 2011 at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Harpenden. In recent years the popular Lions Golf Day has grown to become a firm favourite for both corporate and social entertainment and it has raised many thousands of pounds for charities.

The event in 2011 raised just over £1000 for two charities, Help for Heroes and SSAFA - Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.

Organiser, Lion Russell King, reported, “The course record wasn’t broken despite the perfect conditions - however every one had a great day! Trophies were presented to individuals for first place (Ernie Richardson) and runner up (Charles Whitehouse).

Prizes were also handed out for highest scoring team, nearest the pin and longest drive.

Harpenden Lions Club will be repeating the popular Charity Golf Day on Friday 6th May at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Harpenden. In recent years the Lions Golf Day has grown to become a firm favourite for both corporate and social entertainment and it has raised many thousands of pounds for charities.

The charities to benefit from the 2011 event are Help for Heroes and SSAFA - Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.

The Golf Day starts with a light lunch and concludes with dinner. During the day there will be other competitions and also a raffle.

Music for the Month of May - Saturday 21st May 2011 - Original Announcement of the Event

Harpenden Lions Club is again hosting a charity music evening showcasing talented young musicians.

This popular annual event, now in its 20th year, features a concert of solo and chamber music by students from the internationally acclaimed Purcell School for Young Musicians. It will be held at the wonderful venue of the Great Drawing Room in Rothamsted Manor in Harpenden on Saturday 21st May 2011 at 7:30pm.

The programme is currently being refined and prepared. Details will appear here as soon as it is available.
