Harpenden Lions are pleased to announce that the third Harpenden Battle of the Bands will be held in Harpenden Public Halls on Saturday 23rd April 2016. Youth bands from Harpenden and the St Albans district wishing to take part should apply early as spaces are limited. Bands will perform two numbers, which may be two original compositions, two covers, or one original and one cover. Prizes will be awarded to the winning bands in the “Best Original Composition and Performance” and “Best Cover Performance” categories. Band members must be aged 18 or under at the date of the event.
The 2016 event will see the introduction of audience voting – the audience will be able to vote for their favourite bands in each category and their marks will be added to those of the judging panel, giving bands an opportunity to boost their scores by bringing along their supporters. The celebrity presenter and judge lineup will be announced in the New Year.
Harpenden Battle of the Bands was established in 2014 by Harpenden Lions, together with Izzy and Harry Judd. It aims to raise funds for worthy causes and to provide a platform to showcase the talents of young musicians and youth bands across a range of music genres. To date over £4,000 has been raised for the Eyes Alight appeal for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) and Lions Charities.
Our charities for Battle of the Bands 2016 will be: The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust Eyes Alight Appeal (www.thedtgroup.org/support-us/appeals/eyes-alight.aspx), which raises money for men and women with brain injuries who use BIRT’s services and community houses and; Kids in Action (www.kidsinaction.org.uk), a local charity that supports children, adults and families living with special needs and disabilities, by providing sporting and social activities, day trips and subsidised holidays.
