Life Skills for Children and Young People

Harpenden Lions Club Life Skills programme supports schools in Harpenden and surrounding areas to instil in their children and young people the skills they need to manage their lives and take their place as responsible members of society.

Life Skills are taught through the school Personal, Social and Health Education Curriculum (PSHE) which broadly aims to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, teamworking and critical thinking within the context of a healthy lifestyle.

Since our programme began in 1991 we have raised and donated over £250,000 to our local schools to help them purchase the resources and services they need. We raise part of the funding ourselves through fundraising events such as the annual Highland Gathering. The bulk of the funding comes from charitable trusts and local businesses who share our commitment to young people and whose loyal support we greatly value.
