A Day of Scottish Fun

The Harpenden Lions Club CIO recently hosted a fantastic Highland Gathering, a vibrant celebration of Scottish culture and tradition. The event, held on 14 July 2024, was a huge success, attracting people from far and wide to enjoy a day of fun, food, and entertainment.

A Scottish Extravaganza The Highland Gathering offered something for everyone. Highlights included:

  • Pipe Band Performances: The air was filled with the inspiring sounds of marching pipe bands, their music adding to the festive atmosphere.

  • Highland Dancing: Graceful dancers performed traditional Scottish dances, showcasing their skill and artistry.

  • Heavy Events: Strongmen and women competed in traditional Highland games, such as tossing the caber and the hammer throw.

  • Craft Stalls: Visitors could explore a variety of stalls selling Scottish goods, including tartan fabrics, kilts, and delicious treats.

  • Food Stalls and Bar: Attendees could enjoy a variety of Scottish and international cuisine, as well as refreshing drinks from the bar.

  • Children's Activities: There was plenty for young people to enjoy, with face painting, games, and other family-friendly activities.

A Community Event The Highland Gathering was more than just a fun day out; it was also a valuable community event. The Harpenden Lions Club CIO uses the proceeds from the gathering to support local charities and projects. This year, the event raised funds for Young Lives vs Cancer, Harpenden Lions Club Life Skills programme, and several local groups that help by supporting the event.

A Day to Remember The Harpenden Lions Club CIO's Highland Gathering was a wonderful celebration of Scottish culture and a great way to spend a day with family and friends. If you missed this year's event, be sure to mark your calendar for next year's gathering. It's a fantastic opportunity to experience the unique spirit of Scotland right here in Harpenden.
