A Heartfelt Evening with Lexie Trim and Her Chemo Bags Project

On 14 April, Lexie Trim, whom we sponsored at the District stage of the Lions Young Ambassador Programme, joined our club meeting to share the story behind her Chemo Bag Project.

Lexie launched her initiative in 2023 after witnessing the impact of chemotherapy on her aunt and, later, her mother, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Seeing the physical and emotional toll first-hand inspired her to take action and bring comfort to others facing similar challenges.

She began by assembling and distributing thoughtfully prepared bags containing practical items to help ease common side effects of chemotherapy. These include lip balm for dryness, aloe vera gel for sensitive skin, drinks to combat dehydration, mints to relieve nausea and dry mouth, and a range of other supportive essentials.

The overwhelmingly positive response from patients at the Lister Hospital Cancer Centre encouraged Lexie to expand the project. She now undertakes a wide variety of fundraising activities to support the continued production and distribution of her chemo bags. To date, she has delivered over 600 bags and has ambitious plans to extend the initiative to other cancer centres across the Home Counties.

Lexie’s work has received widespread recognition. She has appeared on BBC News and received a BBC Three Counties Radio Make a Difference Award, highlighting both the impact of her project and her exceptional dedication to helping others. In March 2026, she was also a finalist in the Future of Hertfordshire Award at the Heart Hertfordshire Hero Awards.

Lexie is an inspiring young woman who truly embodies the values of compassion and service. Our club is proud to support her Chemo Bag Project and looks forward to continuing to champion her work. As a club, we were proud to present Lexie with a £500 donation to help fund more bags. It was a moment that reflected the shared values of service and kindness that sit at the core of our Lions community, and one that underscored how collective support can amplify the impact of a single inspiring project.

Lexie’s work can be supported in two simple ways either through her JustGiving page or her Amazon Wishlist. Even the smallest contribution helps her continue this deeply meaningful project
